Dino Melaye threatens to mount international campaign against Inec chairman Prof Yakubu

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the recent gubernatorial elections Senator Dino Melaye has vowed to mount an international campaign against the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

On Saturday, Kogians went to the polls to elect a new governor, as happened in Imo and  Bayesla states. On Sunday, Inec declared Ahmed Usman-Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly governor-elect in Kogi State with 446,237 votes, to beat Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party with 259,052 votes and senator Melaye with 46,362 votes.

However, Senator Melaye has refused to accept the results, accusing Professor Yakubu of fraud and colluding with the APC to rig the elections. During a recent interview on Arise TV, Senator Melaye vowed to organise an international protest against Professor Yakubu for aiding the rigging, claiming that results were manipulated and his votes were deducted and added to those of the APC.

Senator Melaye said: “With comparative analyses from the past, I have seen different types of rigging but this brazen daylight robbery, I have never seen it before. Inec demonstrated that they are co-travellers with APC in this business, as the speed with which they accepted the concocted results written before accreditation, with all the mutations and reducing votes of PDP openly and increasing that of the APC, tells it all.

“Results shown are more than PVCs collected, I have never seen this type before. This is appalling and we know that the almighty God that we serve will punish Mahmood Yakubu, he will not go free. We will organize protest, we will write letters to all embassies and the international communities, telling them that he is a fraud, Inec is a fraud and we will not allow it.”
