BRIGHTON and Hove fullback Odel Offiah has committed his senior international future to Nigeria pointing out that he now looks forward to representing the Super Eagles despite having dual citizenship which makes him eligible to play for England.
Offiah, 21, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, has stated that he will play for Nigeria if he gets invited to the Super Eagles camp by Finidi George, the new head coach of the team. He is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, and Bright Osayi-Samuel, who were all born in the UK but chose to represent the Super Eagles
A spokesman for the player's agency, said: "He hasn't played for England at any level and he is 21 years old already. It's a no-brainer to know where he stands and has a better chance of having a fulfilled international career. Offiah will play for Nigeria if he gets invited as early as the next international break."
Despite Brighton’s recent disastrous 4-0 loss to defending champions, Manchester City last Thursday, Offiah put up a superb display for the Seagulls in what was his second league appearance. Offiah, who graduated from Brighton's academy, was brought on at the start of the second half and his performances caught the eye of manager, Roberto de Zerbi.
Offiah, has played a total of 119 minutes in the English Premier League this season and is expected to retain his place in Brighton's first team due to a current injury crisis. If he gets a call-up to the Super Eagles, he will be battling the likes of Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel for the rightback spot.
