DIASPORA umbrella body the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) has issued a statement on developments sorrounding fast track passport applications in the UK. Signed by chairman Ayo Akinfe, general secretary Abidemi Bada and publicity secretary Rose Graham, the statement which was approved unanimously by its excutive committee, states the association's response to ongoing developments sorrounding the matter.
Full statement:
The Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk), in line with its core vision and objectives proactively updates Nigerian nationals in the UK on a wide spectrum of issues, including passport applications, to ensure they are well informed and reassured.
Our immediate attention has been drawn to several press statements from the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (Nidcom) and the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) on fast-track passport applications in the UK.
Canuk recently issued a press statement regarding the visa process and associated fees, informing Nigerians in the UK that the information was accurate at the time of publication. However, it has come to our attention that there may have been a miscommunication concerning the fast-track passport application.
As an organisation representing the Nigerian community in the UK, Canuk acted in good faith based on the information available at that time. As a responsible and reputable entity, we are now liaising with the appropriate authorities to clarify the issue, and they will provide an update on the fast-track passport application in due course.
Please be assured that we will continue to fulfil our duties in the overall interests of Nigerians, collaborating with the high commission, government agencies, and the broader Nigerian community in the UK.
As the umbrella body representing all Nigerian organisations in the UK, Canuk serves the diaspora community and acts as a bridge between our people and the high commission. This role ensures that we keep the community informed about developments regarding passport applications, fostering a sense of connection and unity.
Canuk remains unwavering in its commitment to keeping its members informed and advocating for the interests of Nigerians in the UK. We want to reassure you of our steadfast dedication to serving your interests and representing you whenever the need arises. Your trust and confidence in us are of utmost importance.
Kind regards
Ayo Akinfe Abidemi Bada Rose Graham

Note for editors
The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (Canuk) was formed by the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom in 2005 in recognition of a clear need to unite the various Nigerian groups under one umbrella organisation. This ensures that the welfare, views, and community interests of Nigerians in the United Kingdom are represented in a harmonious and organised manner and creating a forum through which their voice could be heard.
