ENGLISH Premier League champions Manchester City have joined the race for Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman with a view to signing him up before the Friday transfer window deadline.
Lookman, 26, has been a revelation in Italy with Atalanta, where he helped them win the Uefa Europa League last season, scoring a hat trick in the final. With his stock now at an all time high, the dashing winger has prioritised a move to another club this summer, which has attracted the attention of all of Europe's big boys.
A former Everton player, Lookman's future took a quick turn earlier in the week when French giants Paris Saint-Germain made enquiries about his availability on Sunday. Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini was counting on the 26-year-old to continue with his fine form this season but is now resigned to the reality that he may be forced to sell one of his prize assets.
According to Football Italia, apparently Lookman asked not to be called up for Atalanta's 2024/25 Serie A opening game against Lecce on Monday. This decision has seen Liverpool and Arsenal try to make last-minute efforts to sign the forward.
Now, according to UK media outlet, TBR Football, Manchester City is now among the clubs interested in the talented forward before the close of the transfer window. Lookman left Everton for £23m in 2019 to join German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. and has travelled around a bit before ending up at Atalanta.
