VICTOR Osimhen will become the highest paid player in the English Premier League if Chelsea accede to his wage demands and agree to pay the £500,000 a week he is demanding if the club wants him to join them.
Chelsea are one of the clubs hotly in pursuit of Osimhen alongside Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain (PSG), who are all seeking to secure his signature before the August 31 transfer deadline date. Osimhen, 25, is itching to leave Serie A side Napoli but so far, the huge transfer fee the club has been demanding has put off several suitors.
Over the last few weeks, however, it appears that Chelsea in particular has managed to strike a deal with Napoli and is hoping to agree terms with the player. According to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, Osimhen's representatives are demanding £500,000 a week, which will make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.
Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, is currently the highest-paid player in the league, taking home a £400,000 a week. He is followed by team mate Erling Haaland, who earns £375,000 per week and then by Jadon Sancho of Manchester United and Liverpool's Mohammed Salah, who both take home £350,000 a week.
If the deal goes through and Chelsea accept the request, it would also make Osimhen the highest paid player in the history of the English Premier League. With just five days until the end of the transfer market, Osimhen and his camp have to find a solution so he can start playing top level football again.
Three weeks ago, strong reports emerged that Osimhen had agreed personal terms with PSG, but the French champions failed to cut a deal with Napoli, who were asking for a transfer fee of over £120m. Those talks have since cooled off, and it now appears like Arsenal and Chelsea are the only two clubs still interested in securing Osimhen's services.
