NIGERIANS in the UK will be marking the country's 64th independence day anniversary on October 1 with a quiz organised by the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) to test their knowledge of both countries.
Taking place on Tuesday October 1 and starting at 7pm, the quiz shall be virtual and shall be open to all Canuk member organisations. Canuk has created an Eventbrite link to enable its member associations to register for the event ahead of the date.
Seven senior members of the community have been appointed as judges for the event by the Canuk executive committee. They include Otunba Mobolaji Falase, Councillor Kate Anolue, Mrs June Douglas, Mr Omusa Ohyoma, Mr Clarkson Temple-Sambo, Mrs Amina Asangae-Rae, Mr Chima Olugh, Councillor Sade Etti and Dr Chris Ejeh.
Canuk's assistant social secretary, Ada Ikechiuku will act as quiz mistress on the night, presenting the questions to delegates. It is expected that the whole event should not last more than three hours.
Toyin Balogun, Canuk's social secretary, said: "This quiz shall have five categories - Nigerian history, sports, entertainment, United Kingdom knowledge and history of Canuk. There will be first, second and third place cash prizes announced on the day and the ultimate winners of the quiz will be handed a trophy at Canuk's gala dinner on December 14.
"We shall be inviting the acting high commissioner to address delegates at the start of the event and are expecting a very good turnout. Only paid up members organisations will be allowed to participate, so we are appealing with all our members to please check their status with our financial secretary ahead of the date."
Canuk currently has 151 member organisations, representing its highest number ever in the organisation's 20-year history. Letters will be sent to all member organisations providing them with the online link to the quiz.
