BRITISH high commissioner to Nigeria Richard Montgomery has celebrated with Nigerian David Sangokoya the first African cadet to win the International Cadet Sword of Honour from the Royal Air Force College in the UK.
Last month, Flying Officer David Sangokoya was awarded the International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College in Cranwell in the United Kingdom after emerging as the best international cadet on his course. In a huge honour for him, the award was presented to the officer by the Prince of Wales, Prince William on behalf of King Charles III.
At the time, the Nigerian Air Force congratulated Flying Officer Sangokoya, saying he did the service real proud. Now Mr Montgomery has added his voice to the praises too, issuing a statement on X after meeting the young cadet.
Mr Montgomery's statement read: “High commissioner Richard Montgomery was pleased to meet Flying Officer David Sangokoya, the first African to win the International Cadet Sword of Honour from UK’s Royal Air Force, Cranwell. He congratulated him on making history, heard his experience and reflected on our relationship.”
Flying Officer Sangokoya attended the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training Course 22 as a cadet from March to September 2023, where he emerged as the best international cadet on the course. At the passing out parade, the prestigious award was presented to him by the Prince of Wales, at the royal graduation on September 12 2024.
