NIGERIA's defence headquarters has confirmed the emergence of a new terrorist organisation in Sokoto State known as Lukarawas that is making life unbearable for residents across the northwest geo-political zone.
Over the last week, 15 victims of an attack by a new terror group on Mera village, in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have been given a mass burial. Their funeral prayers were attended by Kebbi State deputy governor, Umar Tafida, the state commissioner of police and Emir of Argungu HRH Isma’ila Mera.
Former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District Senator Shehu Sani, responded, recalling how Borno and Yobe State have suffered attacks from the Boko Haram insurgents over a decade. He added that the emergence of a new terrorist group at the moment would only expand the theatre of operations, citing the unending battle against terrorism in the region.
Senator Sani said: “For a country that has been fighting terrorism in multiple fronts for over one decade, the emergence of a new terrorist group in Sokoto will only expand the theatre of operations. There is no evil and cruelty that the people of Borno and Yobe have not seen or experienced for over 15years but our country shall overcome and prevail over them.”
Deputy governor Tafida offered condolences and support to the bereaved families saying that the state governor stands with them and will work closely with security agencies to prevent further incidents. Also, the Emir of Argungu urged unity and resilience and called on the security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure community safety.
At the funeral, they all prayed for peace and for the repose of the souls of the departed, with a commitment to strengthen regional security and stability. In addition, the Kebbi State government further reassured citizens of ongoing efforts to protect lives and prevent future tragedies.
