Nigeria-eligible teenager Nicholas Okosun joins English Championship side Watford

NIGERIA-eligible teenage striker Nicholas Okosun has just signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with English Championship club Watford that will keep him at the Hornets until 2029 with the option of extending his stay further.

Okosun, 18, qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father as well as the Republic of Ireland, where he was raised. He has joined Watford from Irish clubside Bohemians ahead of the reopening of the transfer window and will initially start his Watford career with the club's development squad.

Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, it is believed that the contract comes with the option of an additional year being added in 2029.  Okosun, who can play as a striker or winger, appeared in 12 matches across all competitions for Bohemians, including seven in the Irish Premier Division, logging 296 minutes.

He has also played for the Ireland U17 team which qualified for the European U17 Championship in Hungary thanks to Okosun's match-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over Cyprus in March 2023. He made four appearances off the bench during the 2023 U17 Euro, helping Ireland reach the quarter finals of the tournament.

At Watford, Okosun will be surrounded by a few kinsmen, as Nigerian trio Tobi Adeyemo, Prince Sikiru and Jonathan Lawson, are all part of Watford's U21 team. Okosun will be officially joining them on January 1, 2025.
