ENGLISH Premier league giants Arsenal have stepped up their monitoring of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the hope that they may still be able to sign him at the end of the current season.
Arsenal are currently sitting second in the English Premier League table and know that for them to have any hope of competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, they need to add more firepower to their attack. With the January transfer window set to open at the end of the month, Arsenal have stepped up the monitoring of Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been second best in the English top-flight for two consecutive seasons, without the availability of a World class striker. While they have come close to clinching the trophy, many believe a regular goalscorer is what the side need to get over the line in the title race.
Osimhen, who continues to shine in Galatasaray, was linked with a summer move to Arsenal but his €130m release clause was more than what the Gunners could afford. realising they have to do something drastic if they ever want to win the league, Arsenal have been sending scouts to observe Osimhen in Turkey.
Arsenal understand there is interest for the striker elsewhere and are looking to quickly seal a deal whenever the opportunity presents itself. Osimhen would be a significant addition to Mikel Arteta’s team as he guarantees 15 to 20 league goals if fully fit.
Also he is a very potent threat in the air as of Osimhen’s 123 club career goals, 33 of have come from headers and this is something Arsenal are traditionally good at doing. Osimhen is interested in a move to England, but his preferred destination is currently unknown and it is widely expected that the final league standings at the end of the season will play a vital role in the club he will play for next.
