Adarabioyo shuns Brighton overtures opting to remain at Chelsea for the rest of the season

NIGERIA-eligible central defender Tosin Adarabioyo has shunned overtures from English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion opting to spend the rest of the season with his current team Chelsea.

Adarabioyo, 27, arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 after turning down a new contract that would have made him one of Fulham's highest-paid players. However, since arriving at Stamford bridge, he has found it hard to get regular playing time, which prompted Brighton to enquire about his services.

However, London-born Adarabioyo has declared that he is satisfied with life at Chelsea and has no plans whatsoever to jump ship during the current January transfer window. Brighton had been hoping to convince the centreback to join them permanently, in a move that could see Chelsea benefit from the player they signed on a free transfer.

There are currently no ongoing negotiations for Adarabioyo to join Brighton & Hove or any other club before the close of the winter window. Apparently, he is seen as one of the leaders in the Chelsea dressing room and serves as a mentor to young players like Josh Acheampong, Tyrique George and Shumaira Mheuka.

Adarabioyo's performances have been notable, helping the Blues in recording seven clean sheets in 18  appearances so far this season. He has also made an impact offensively, needing just one more goal to set a new personal record for goals in a single season since beginning his professional career.

Still yet to feature for Nigeria at senior international level, Adarabioyo has a contract with Chelsea until the end of the 2027/28 season. Having played for the England youth team, he will need to undergo a switch with Fifa before being eligible to feature for the Super Eagles
