Bristol City and Swansea eye signing Osaze before the January transfer window closes

NIGERIA-eligible defender Osaze Urhoghide maybe moving to England before the January transfer window closes as Championship sides Bristol City and Swansea have both made enquiries about his availability over recent weeks.

Urhoghide, 24, who previously played in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic, currently plays in Ligue Two in France with Amiens. He has been impressive so far this season and has caught attention after scoring three goals in 18 matches across all competitions during the current campaign.

According to online portal Football Insider, his standout displays have sparked speculation over his future, with both Bristol City and Swansea showing an interest. Bristol City and Swansea, currently ninth and 12th in the Championship table respectively, are seeking defensive reinforcements as the January transfer window approaches its closure on February 3.

Capable of playing across the backline, Urhoghide's arrival is expected to strengthen the defence of both teams as they aim for promotion to the Premier League. However, a potential transfer might prove challenging for the Championship duo, as Urhoghide remains under contract with Amiens until June 2026.

Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Osaze Urhoghide remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior international level. He also qualifies to play for the Netherlands and England but is yet to make an appearance for any national team, although he trained with Nigeria's Olympic squad in 2019.

A return to English football could boost his chances of earning a call-up to the Super Eagles under coach Eric Chelle ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in March. Nigeria is set to face Zimbabwe and Rwanda as the Super Eagles aim to revive their hopes of qualifying for the tournament after missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
