Just imagine how many people across Nigeria such a company would employ and the amount of foreign exchange it would generate if it signed supply contracts across Africa. Just imagine this company supplying military and police uniforms for 50 African nations.
However, for it to work, we need significant domestic supplies of cotton, silk, wool and jute. I would be looking at a vertically-integrated company where everything is produced locally, including the machinery.
Maybe our evangelical clergymen can fill this vacuum. Imagine them creating a holding company called Man of God PLC with a textile subsidiary called the Nigerian Uniform Company.
It would be a huge money spinner as it would not only generate wealth but also cut out the need to waste foreign exchange on expensive imports. Ultimately, this company will delve into the native attire mass market, sewing agbadas, iro & buba, isiagu, kaftans, etc.
