ENGLISH Championship side Burnley are looking to sign Nigerian striker Daniel Udoh from his current club Wycombe Wanderers during the summer as they eye a swift return to the English Premier League.
Currently sitting third in the English Championship behind league leaders Leeds United and Sheffield United, Burnley, who were relegated last season, are hoping for a swift return to the top flight. If they do get promoted, the Lancashire side know that they will have to strengthen significantly to avoid an immediate drop.
Udoh, 28, joined Wycombe Wanderers in July 3 last year after rejecting the offer of a new contract from his previous club Shrewsbury Town. Burnley have now entered into direct negotiations with Wycombe Wanderers over a potential summer transfer for Udoh, who is still only valued at £850,000.
One source close to the deal said: “We are in direct contact with Burnley and Wycombe over a deal for Udoh. Wycombe have been receptive but are cautious about distractions around him as they believe he is focused on helping the team gain promotion.”
Burnley’s interest in Udoh is serious, with the club already making an initial bid that could tempt Wycombe into negotiations. However, discussions remain ongoing and a final decision has yet to be made.
Udoh has been a key figure for Wycombe Wanderers this season, contributing with crucial goals and assists as the club pushes for promotion. His impressive performances have attracted interest from multiple clubs but Burnley appears to be leading the race for his signature
Wycombe currently sit second in the League One table, the third tier of English football, just behind leaders Birmingham City. No official statement has been made as regards a move for the player but it is hoped Wycombe will accept Burnley’s offer or demand a higher fee for the striker as the summer transfer window approaches.
