ENGLISH Premier League giants Chelsea have set their sights on Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface as a priority summer signing in response to their inability to sign compatriot Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
Last summer, Chelsea tried desperately to sign Osimhen, with the club sending a team out to Naples to conclude a deal but things fell through on the final day of the transfer window. Chelsea are currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table but know that if they want to challenge for the title, they need a bit more firepower upfront.
Currently playing for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface is seen as the ideal replacement for Osimhen, as he is as strong targetman with an eye for goal. Apart from Chelsea, the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle, and Manchester United are all said to looking at signing him too.
Boniface has been in red-hot form for Bayer Leverkusen, playing a key role in their Bundesliga title victory last season and building up on that with 10 goals in 20 appearances this season. His performances have caught the attention of several Premier League giants, which could spark an intense transfer battle during the forthcoming summer transfer window.
Chelsea sees Boniface as a long-term solution to their striking woes and are reportedly ready to table a lucrative offer to convince both Leverkusen and the player. With the summer transfer window approaching, Chelsea’s pursuit of Boniface could intensify but they will have to fend off stiff competition from top European clubs.
