Liverpool join the race to sign Aina seeing him as a good replacement for Alexander-Arnold

ENGLISH Premier League giants Liverpool have joined the race to sign Super Eagles fulback Ola Aina at the end of the season in response to the fact that he and his current club Nottingham Forest are yet to agree a new deal.

Aina, 28, is out on contract at the City Ground at the end of the season but negotiations on a new deal have not been concluded. With several big clubs, led by Manchester City, looking to sign Aina, his agents appear reluctant to enter into a new deal with Forest, paving the way for their man to leave on a free contract at the end of the season.

Six-time Uefa Champions League winners, Liverpool, have now entered the fray as Aina's exploits this season have been remarkable. Nottingham Forest are currently sitting third in the English Premier League table and are on course to qualify for the Uefa Champions League, thanks in no part to Aina's scintillating performances at right fullback.

Aina, the former Torino defender has played over 50 games for Forest since joining the club in 2023, chipping in with three goals and providing two assists while playing in several positions across the backline. Manchester City in particular are keen on bringing him in as a replacement for Kyle Walker, while Liverpool need Aina as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In the final year of his Liverpool contract, Alexander-Arnold is currently attracting interest from Real Madrid and should he leave for Spain, the club will need a suitable replacement. Clubs in Saudi Arabia's Pro League are also said to be eyeing a move for Aina and will make an offer should Forest fail to renew his contract.
