ENGLISH Premier League giants Manchester United and Italian side Napoli have agreed a €60m deal for the services of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen that involves him signing a five year contract at Old Trafford.
According to Turkish journalist Aygün Özipek reporting to Turkey, where Osimhen is currently playing on loan for Galatasary, the two sides have agreed to the terms of the deal. He added that while Osimhen has a release clause worth €75m in his contract, Napoli were open to offering a discount to Man United in a bid to prevent rivals Juventus from landing him.
Furthermore, Mr Ozipek revealed that Osimhen will be paid €15m per season in wages, which amounts to €288,461 per week. These wages are far less than what initial reports were suggesting and if Manchester United can secure qualification for the Europa League, paying such a weekly wage should not be an issue.
Mr Ozipek took to X to announce: “Osimhen signs five year deal with Manchester United, for which a transfer fee of €60m will be paid. The football player will receive a net annual salary of €15m."
Manchester United's co-owners are looking to trim the wage bill but are open to paying big salaries to the right profiles, as seen from their contract extension with Bruno Fernandes. This development could also mean the end of Rasmus Hojlund’s time at the club, with Ruben Amorim far from happy with what he has seen from the Dane.
United are not putting all their eggs in one basket, however and are keeping back-up options ready in case things do not go according to plan. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins are just some of the other targets said to be on the club’s radar.
