Awoniyi says he wants to remain in English Premier League should he leave Forest

SUPER Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has declared that he would like to stay plying his trade in the English Premier League should he part ways with Nottingham Forest this summer over a lack of playing time.

This season, Awoniyi, 27, has struggled to get playing time at high-flying Forest as New Zealand striker Chris Wood, is the club's first choice number nine. This has fuelled speculation that Awoniyi may be on his way when the summer transfer period opens at the end of the season.

Amid growing speculation about his destination, Awoniyi, who has battled with injuries over the last season, has stated that the Premier League remains his priority, despite reported interest from clubs in other European leagues. he added that he is not interested in offers from other leagues, particularly Spain, despite being approached.

Awoniyi said: “For me, it’s always the Premier League. My family, agent and everyone knows it’s always the Premier League. I’ve seen people text me and be like we have this good project in Spain but I don’t even reply to them and sometimes I block them immediately because it’s not my conversation.”

Back in 2022, Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin and played a key role in helping the club avoid relegation during his first season at the Baseball Ground. However, the last campaign has not been so good for him as he has only managed two goals in 31 appearances this season.
