SUPER Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo is looking to leave his current club Southampton and return to Glasgow Rangers in Scotland following the Saints' relegation to the second tier of English football in the just-concluded campaign.
At the end of the 2024/25 season, Southampton were relegated to the English Championship for the third time in three seasons. In 2022, Aribo arrived at Southampton from Glasgow Rangers for a fee of £6m and including performance-related add-ons, the total amount he is worth could add up to £10m.
Aribo, 28, went down with Southampton to the English Championship at the end of the 2022/23 season and helped them to regain promotion to the Premier League immediately. Following their latest relegation, however, it appears that the midfielder is determined to leave for a club where among other things, he is guaranteed European football.
Towards the end of last season, Aribo barely made Southampton's matchday squad under interim manager Simon Rusk. He has subsequently told Southampton he wants to leave the club this summer and has set his sights on a return to his former club, Rangers.
Aribo is still a popular figure at the Ibrox after an impressive three year spell at the club and he believed he can reignite his career there. At the end of the 2022/23 season, several clubs made offers for Aribo following Southampton's relegation but the Saints refused to let him go, considering a vital to their promotion bid.
It is not yet clear if the club will want to hold on to him again this time around or if they will be happy to let him go. Aribo’s contract with Southampton is set to expire in 2026, presenting the Hampshire-based club with a last chance to cash in on him.
