Forest activate Ola Aina's contract extenson iin bid to keep him for the forthcoming season

ENGLISH Premier League giants Nottingham Forest have activated the one-year extension of Super Eagles fullback  Ola Aina’s contract effectively ending any interest in Manchester City securing his services during the summer transfer window.

Aina was in the middle of negotiating a new contract with the club, meaning that purchasing him will likely cost a tidy sum and Forest had been hoping to seal a new contract that includes a hefty buy-out clause, so they can cash in on a proposed move to Man City. It now appears that the two sides have reached an agreement and Aina is now expected to remain at the City Ground until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Forest were keen to tie the fullback down to a long-term contract following an impressive 2024/25 campaign. Aina has been in impressive form for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side throughout last season and has thus being targeted by City in the summer as replacement for England international Kyle Walker.

Aina moved to the City Ground on a free transfer in 2023 after severing ties with Serie A club Torino. He has made 57 league appearances for the Reds, distinguishing himself as a Forest hero and becoming a fans favourite.

Having a terrible season by their lofty standards, Man City need to make swinging changes to its ageing squad and manager Pep Guardiola has already initiated a rebuilding programme. Aina has been in impressive form for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side so far this season and was thus being targeted by City in the summer.
