Man United consider activating Ndidi's €9m release clause as Amorim looks to bolster his squad

SUPER Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi could be on his way to Old Trafford soon as Manchester United are considering putting a bid for him following Leicester City's relegation and the subsequent need to offload their expensive players.

After just a year back in the top flight, Leicester have once again been relegated to the English Championship, which is almost certain to lead to the exodus of a lot of their top players. Last summer, Ndidi signed a new contract with the former English Premier League champions, which included a €9m release clause.

Ndidi, 28, has racked up over 300 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 18 goals, providing 22 assists and winning the FA Cup and English Championship titles with the club. According to transfer expert, Ben Jacobs, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Ndidi's situation as they look to reinforce their midfield without spending much.

He provides the added advantage of experience which Kobbie Mainoo does not and also offers the physical presence an ageing Casemiro cannot provide. However, Man United face tough competition from Atletico Madrid and Everton, who are also interested in the services of the former KRC Genk midfielder.

Should the move take place, Ndidi will become the second Nigerian to play for Man United after Odion Ighalo. Man United finished in 15th place on the English Premier League table and they need quality signings this summer in order to bounce back.

Ndidi is an ideal fit for Man United and will provide squad depth for manager Ruben Amorim. Last summer, the club spent €60m on midfielder Manuel Ugarte but will spend considerably less to bring an arguably better player if they go ahead to secure Ndidi, who is also very versatile as he can play in defence too.
