Nigeria-eligible teenage striker Sanusi signs contract with Premier League giants Newcastle

NIGERIA-eligible teenage striker Trevan Sanusi has signed a fresh contract with English Premier League giants Newcastle United in a move which is likely to see him become a first team regular next season.

Sanusi, 18, signed his first professional contract with the Magpies in May 2024 and he has been rewarded with a new deal after making his senior debut. He made his first team debut in an Emirates FA Cup clash at St James' Park, coming off the bench for the final 21 minutes of a 3-1 victory over Bromley.

Earlier this week, Newcastle United decided to reward Sanusi with a new contract in recognition of his contributions, alongside Sean Neave and Leo Shahar. Meanwhile, compatriot Sam Alabi has agreed a first-year scholarship deal with the club alongside other teenagers Michael Mills and Sammy Pinnington.

An exciting winger, Sanusi also made appearances in Premier League 2, U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy tournament last season. A winger capable of playing on both flanks, he scored on his full home debut for United’s second-string in a Premier League Two clash against Chelsea in March 2024.

Before sealing a move to Newcastle United, Sanusi was named on the bench for Birmingham City’s final Championship fixture of the 2022/23 season against Sheffield United, marking the milestone at just 16 years old. Sanusi trained with Newcastle United's first team during preparations for the 2024/25 season, featuring in friendly matches against Hull City, Girona and Stade Brestois and it has been uphill ever since.
