SUPER Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has become the latest target of newly-promoted English Premier League club Burnley as the Lancashire team is desperately looking to sign him from Belgian side Racing Genk before the start of the new season.
Arokodare, 24, who has four caps for Nigeria, scored his first goal for the Super eagles during a recent Unity Cup friendly in Russia, when he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw. A towering six foot six targetman, Arokodare has emerged as one of the most in-demand Nigerian strikers this summer, thanks to his standout performances for both club and country.
According to British broadsheet The Telegraph, Burnley are working on striker options for manager Scott Parker including Arokodare and Premier League players whose contracts have expired. Arokodare finished as the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League last season with 21 goals in 40 games and also added two more in five appearances in the Croky Cup.
On the international stage, Arokodare received his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, making substitute appearances in both fixtures. Racing Genk are demanding £25m for the Nigeria international who has two years left on his contract.
Burnley are hopeful that Genk's valuation will come down as the summer transfer window progresses. Arokodare, who has also been linked with Fulham in recent days, has reported for pre-season training with Genk amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
Burnley have had their eyes on several Nigerian players lately, emerging as one of the favourites to sign anchorman Frank Onyeka who has just returned from a season-long loan in Die Bundesliga with Augsburg. Onyeka, 27, is still technically owned by English Premier league side Brentford but was sent out on loan to Germany last season.
