CHELSEA centreback Tosin Adarabioyo and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) will not conclude the players switch to the Super Eagles over the coming weeks despite the defender currently being in Lagos on holiday.
Adarabioyo, 27, was born in London, to Nigerian parents and thus is eligible to play international football for both England and Nigeria but has so far yet to make a commitment to the Super Eagles. However, in what is seen as making a bold statement, Adarabioyo is currently visiting Nigeria for the first time, where among other things, he is helping to organise a youth tournament.
Having already played for the England youth team, Adarabioyo had been hoping to get an England call-up but with that not materialising, it appears he may now switch his attention to Nigeria. Super eagles manager Eric Chelle is interested in the defender but so far, Adarabioyo has not make any move to accept the offer presented to him.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, Adarabioyo moved to Chelsea from Fulham as a free agent and was part of the Blues squad that won the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup, beating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 on July 13. However, this is still yet to earn him an England call-up, so Adarabioyo is spending his holidays in Lagos, where he is getting to know Nigeria.
Among other things, Adarabioyo is organising a youth Football tournament, in partnership with the Lagos State Football Association. This grassroots competition, drawing players from the nooks and crannies of the state kicked-off on July 23 and as a member of the organising team, Adarabioyo paid a courtesy call on Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State.
Governor Sanwoolu said: "Tosin Adarabioyo, who plays for Chelsea, stopped by to visit while he’s in Nigeria. It’s always inspiring to meet young Nigerians making their mark internationally, who remain grounded and stay connected to home."
However, Adarabioyo will not hold talks with Super Eagles coach Chelle during his visit as the trip along with his brother and agent, Gbolahan Adarabioyo, is said to be personal. Also part of the trip is their older sibling, Fisayo Adarabioyo, who received a call-up to a Nigeria Olympic national team training camp in December 2014.
While Tosin has not closed the door on representing the Super Eagles, a final decision is yet to be made. Competing in the Tosin Adarabioyo Youth Cup are 36 Lion FC, Mavilon FC, Seamoriow Football Academy and a Lagos State Football Association select side.
