Brighton women roll out the red carpet for Nnadozie as she trains with them for the first time

ENGLISH Women's Super League (WSL) giants Brighton & Hove Albion Women have rolled out the red carpet for Super Eagles goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie who has joined up with the squad for the first time following her recent signing for them.

Nnadozie, 24, signed for the Seagulls in June just before the Women's Africa Cup of nations which Nigeria recently won in Morocco. She joined on a free transfer from French club Paris FC but immediately after signing flew to Morocco to join her team mates in the Super Falcons camp.

Recently nominated for the Fifa Goalkeeper of the Year Award after her heroics in Morocco, Nnadozie has 63 international caps for Nigeria, making her senior debut in 2018. She has experience in the Women's Champions League, having made 16 European appearances for Paris FC between 2022 and 2025 and has played at the Women's World Cup too.

Yesterday, Brighton & Hove Albion Women rolled out the red carpet for her as she reported to camp for the first time. When she finally stepped into Brighton’s dressing room, she was greeted with applause and a standing ovation from players and staff.

Head coach Dario Vidosic wasted no time in lauding her achievements. Nnadozie is battling for the accolade of being the best goalkeeper in the world along with the likes of Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton and Daphne van Domselaar.

Nnadozie kept four clean sheets in the recent Women's Africa Cup of Nations, conceding just twice in open play in the tournament and was named Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament  too. Her displays also saw her shortlisted for the prestigious Yachine Trophy, the award for the world’s best women’s goalkeeper.

Coach Vidosic said: “Firstly it’s important to say welcome and secondly, congratulations on a fantastic achievement to become champions of Africa. Hopefully with us we can also win some silverware.

“Also, congratulations on the nomination for the goalkeeper of the year, hopefully that’s another award that will come your way. Everyone’s excited for you to be here.

"We’ve introduced two other girls today so now we’ve got three new ones to join us. I’m sure everyone is really excited, we wish you all the best and we look forward to you putting on the Brighton gear.”

In what has been a very successful career so far,  Nnadozie has won titles in Nigeria and France, the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the IFFHS honour and league individual awards. As a member of the Super Falcons winning team, she was also awarded the national honour Officer of the Order of the Niger, a $100,000 cash prize and a three-bedroom apartment in Abuja’s Renewed Hope Estate.

One of the highlights of Nnadozie's time at FC Paris was her heroic display in the 2025 Coupe de France Féminine final, where she saved two penalties against Paris Saint-Germain to clinch the trophy for her team. In 2024, she made history by becoming the first African player to be named the UNFP Division 1 Féminine Goalkeeper of the Season.

She also won the D1 Arkema Best Goalkeeper of the Season and the UNFP Goalkeeper of the Season awards in the same year. Her outstanding performances earned her the IFFHS Africa’s Best Woman Goalkeeper award in 2019.
