TERRORIST sect Boko Haram have killed four Nigerian Army soldiers in Borno State after staging a daring attack on a military post in Ngamudu along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Expressway in Kaga Local Government Area.
Nigerian Army spokesman Lt Col Uba Sani, said the terrorists, however, also suffered a significant number of casualties in the attack. He added that despite the intensity of the attack, the troops held their ground and responded with superior firepower, inflicting significant losses on the terrorists.
Lt Col Sani, said: “Troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area, following a swift response by forces on the ground and reinforcement elements from 29 Task Force Brigade. The terrorists employed rocket propelled grenades, armed drones and command-initiated improvised explosive devices (IED), targeting troops and their platforms.
“Unfortunately, our own troops recorded four killed in action and five wounded in action. Additionally, some mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles and gun trucks sustained varying degrees of damage during the encounter. This necessitated a temporary closure of the main supply route (MSR), as engineers swiftly responded to clear three IED-laden spots.
“Following the successful clearance, the MSR has now been reopened to both military and civilian movement. Credible intelligence confirms heavy terrorist casualties, with reports indicating mass burials of about 15 bodies conveyed in pushcarts by the terrorists for burial around Bula Wura, near Wasaram.”
In addition,. Lt Col Sani stated that troops were immediately resupplied with critical logistics, including mine-resistant ambush protected tyres and ammunition to sustain operations and restore full mobility. He assured the public that normalcy would be restored as sustained operations are ongoing to maintain peace and security in the area.
Of late, Boko Haram and their sister organisations operating in Borno State have been on the back foot, with the Nigerian military gaining the upper hand. Only last month, the Nigerian Air Force carried out unprecedented bombing raids on islands in Lake Chad as part of a renewed battle against terrorist groups the Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram.
