NIGERIAN teenage winger Angelo Agbejoye has commenced trials with English Premier League giants Manchester City and is hopeful of making the cut and joining their first team during the forthcoming January transfer window.
Agbejoye, 18, who currently plays for Nigerian side Grassrunners FC, has been eyed by several European sides for a few months. Earlier this year, the winger underwent trials at AIK Stockholm and Hannover 96 and the experience of training with the second division German side will no doubt be invaluable.
Touted to be a prodigious talent, Agbejoye's technique and skills was what attracted the attention of Man City scouts and coaches. If he were to impress and convince the coaches, Agbejoye could get his European career off to a flying start with a man City contract.
In May, the teenager trained with AIK Stockholm’s U19 side and their first team but the club was not able to sign him then as he did not turn 18 until August. AIK recruitment manager Fredrik Wisur Hansen said that Agbejoye has the X-factor, making him a youngster with a lot of potential.
Mr Hansen said: “A winger who has a nose for goal and who has good speed. He has good finishing ability with his left foot. There is something in him and he will have the opportunity to grow into this.”
Man City are were the club that brought Kelechi Iheanacho to England during the 2015/16 season, where he started off in their academy but joined the first the first team, winning the Football League Cup. Iheanacho moved to Leicester City in 2017 for a fee of £25m, the largest ever transfer amount for a Nigerian player at the time and the second-largest for an African player after Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
