SUPER Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has received a big boost as he plans for the World Cup play-offs later this month after Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Club Brugge announced that midfielder Rapahel Onyedika could return to action today after 37 days out.
Onyedika, 24, has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury during a league match against Westerlo in September, forcing him to miss seven matches across all competitions. Highly sought after by several English clubs, Onyedika had been a doubt for the play-offs but it now appears that he will be fit and available for selection.
Club Brugge have passed Onyedika fit for action and he is now expected to play today when they face Dender in the Jupiler Pro League. Last week, the midfielder returned to light training, meaning that his return was close and now it appears that he is fully fit and ready for action.
It is unlikely that Onyedika will start today but he could get minutes off the bench so he can regain his match fitness. Now that he is back and fit, he will likely be part of Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming World Cup playoffs.
Onyedika will give him an extra option in the middle of the park and a chance to tweak his tactics depending on the game. During the last summer transfer window, several English clubs including Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspurs and West ham all showed an interest in Onyedika and they may still opt for him come January.
