Our National Assembly needs to pass a bill creating the new offence of economic sabotage, which punishes the following offences with at least 10 year jail terms

Ayo Akinfe

[1] Clergymen who refuse to remit 40% of their tithes as state taxes

[2] Those so-called businessmen who import generator sets perpetuating our electricity crisis

[3] Those who own private jets at a time when Nigeria is struggling to get a national carrier off the ground. Maintaining these jets is bleeding our foreign exchange dry

[4] Importers and distributors of luxury goods and items like Gucci and Louis Vuitton handbags that could easily be manufactured in Nigeria. Such people should be wooing manufacturers to come and open shop in Nigeria

[5] Public officials who go abroad for medical treatment. Being elected into office should come with a commitment to dying in Nigeria

[6] Citizens who go abroad to get treatment for ailments that can easily be treated in Nigeria. Why should anyone go abroad for say an appendicitis operation for instance?

[7] State governors who fail to generate at least $1bn in foreign direct investment annually. Any state that cannot meet its own running costs is unviable and the governor should be impeached and tried for economic sabotage

[8] Public officials who sign supply contracts with foreign companies without adding the caveat that the goods to be supplied must be manufactured in Nigeria

[9] Local government chairmen who fail to open up at least one industrial park within their domains. Just imagine the difference it would make if every one 774 of Nigeria’s local government areas has a functioning industrial park firing on all cylinders

[10] Exporters of primary products who fail to add at least 50% added value to their goods. Exporting primary products is their raw form is just a recipe for perpetual poverty. These products get processed and sold back to use as finished goods with a huge mark-up
