ENGLISH Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspurs have emerged as a firm favourite to sign-up Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman during the forthcoming January transfer window.
Lookman, 28, has fallen out with his current Italian club Atalanta, with the relationship between the two sides going sour after a summer transfer collapsed. Since then, Lookman has been in and out of the team, has publicly fallen out with the coach on several occasions and yesterday, he stopped following the club on social media.
With a winter sale now inevitable, Spurs and Spanish side Atletico Madrid have already signified an interest in signing the current African Footballer of the Year. Lookman was keen to leave Atalanta last summer but Atalanta and Inter Milan failed to reach an agreement as there were differences in their valuations of the player.
Lookman, one of the most sought-after attackers available on the market, was always seen by Spurs as an alternative to Savinho. With the January transfer window looming, the club is still interested in him and his recent spat with coach Ivan Juric has made his departure now inevitable, especially as Lookman's contract runs out in 2027.
Tottenham are looking for a new attacker after key target Morgan Rogers agreed a new deal with Aston Villa, while moves for other options, such as Iliman Ndiaye, look unlikely in January. Atletico Madrid are also planning a few key additions to their attacking setup in the next window and are now looking at Lookman as a potential option.
