Cameroon's Indomitable Lions look forward to facing Nigeria in World Cup play-off

CAMEROON'S Indomitable Lions have already begun anticipating a clash with Nigeria's Super Eagles in the final of the ongoing African World Cup play-offs with one of their players announcing that he looks forward to the game next Tuesday.

Later today in Rabat, Nigeria will face the Black Panthers of Gabon in the first semi final, while Cameroon will locks horns with the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the second game. Both winners will then face each other in the final next Tuesday, with the victor qualifying for an inter-continental play-off taking place in Mexico next March.

All four teams are desperate to go to the 2026 World Cup and Levante midfielder Etta Eyong, has already laid down the gauntlet, saying he cannot wait to face Nigeria in the final. Eyong, 22, who was team mates with Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq at Villareal last season, has issued a bold warning to the Super Eagles before both games kick off.

Eyong expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome their rivals, insisting that the days of fearing Nigeria are long gone. He further expressed confidence that the Indomitable Lions would get a positive result from the game and secure qualification for the inter-continental play-offs.

“For me the most dangerous, Nigeria was before but I am no more afraid. With the confidence of the team, we can take the three teams.

"Even though we have to play three matches against them to qualify, we are going to win the three games. It is not like then when Nigeria was frightening me during those days but I think we have the capacity and ability to win those games that are coming," Eyong added.

Born in the Cameroonian city of Douala, Eyong began his career with local side Ecole de Football Galactique before joining the youth side of Spanish club Cádiz in January 2022.  He has been in sensational form this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 12 league appearances.
