ZAMFARA State government has launched an ambitious nursing scholarship scheme aimed at addressing the twin problems of a chronic lack of local healthcare services and mass unemployment of youths.
In a first such scheme of its type, the Zamfara State Scholarship Board announced that all eligible nursing candidates in the state will qualify for the scholarship. However, the scheme will only be open to female students, who will be sponsored to go and study at the Nexus Nursing College in Katsina.
According to the scholarship board, the academic requirements for the scholarship include having at least four Senior School Certificate Examination credits and a minimum score of 140 in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board exam. Some of the scholarship benefits include full payment of tuition fees, registration, accommodation and allowances.
In addition to this, the Zamfara State government has approved full scholarships for 20 students at El-Amin University, Minna, Niger State. Professor Rasheedah Liman, the scholarship board’s executive secretary, said that the initiative reflects the administration’s strong commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and empowering young people with the skills and knowledge required for national development.
She added that the approved fields of study include law, accounting, business management, criminology & security studies, economics & development studies, international relations & diplomacy, mass communication, biochemistry, biotechnology, computer science, cyber security, data science and analytics, microbiology and software engineering. These scholarships covers the full cost of tuition and aim to support students from Zamfara State to excel in diverse and strategically important disciplines.
