Nigeria-eligible teenage striker Chizzy Ezenwata signs professional contract with Chelsea

NIGERIA-eligible teenage striker Chizaram Ezenwata has signed his first professional contract with English Premier League giants Chelsea making the transition from being an academy player into becoming a fully fledged first team member,

Popularly known as Chizzy, Ezenwata, 17, joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic in 2023 and has since progressed through the ranks at Stamford Bridge. After signing his scholarship contract in July 2025, the striker began the 2025/26 campaign as a regular for our Under-18s and currently leads the scoring charts across all competitions at that level, with 11 goals so far.

Chizzy  made his Under-21s debut against Manchester City last season and has featured twice in the English Football League Trophy during the current campaign. On the European stage, he has been part of Calum McFarlane’s Uefa Youth League squad, making his competition debut in Chelsea's 3-1 win over Atalanta.

A prolific striker, Ezenwata also found the back of the net in Chelsea's opening FA Youth Cup fixture, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Brentford to send he team through to the fourth round. Internationally, Ezenwata scored twice in his first three appearances for England Under-18s in September, before representing the country at the Under-17 World Cup.

Born in London to a Cameroonian mother and a Nigerian father, Endy Ezenwata, Chizzy is eligible to play for England, Cameroon and Nigeria. Described as a stocky, muscular striker who uses his body well to hold off defenders, he could end up playing for Nigeria in line with the wishes of his father, who would love to see him don he green-white-green of the Super Eagles.
