Eagles face busy summer with Unity Cup in London and friendlies away to Poland and Portugal

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles are poised for a busy next couple of months despite not qualifying for the World Cup as they are set to face Jamaica and India at the Unity Cup in London next month and then lock horns with Portugal and Poland in June.

Sitting in 21st place in the world, Nigeria is one of the highest ranked teams not going to North America 2026, making the Super Eagles highly sought-after opponents for teams wanting to play friendlies ahead of the World Cup. Over the last week, the Eagles played in a four-nation mini tournament in Turkey involving Jordan, Iran, who are both World Cup bound and Costa Rica.

Now, the organisers of the Unity Cup, the international tournament held in London, featuring teams with strong diaspora links to the UK, are planning to hold another event this year. Nigeria has won every Unity Cup tournament held in the past, beating the likes of Jamaica, Ireland and Trinidad and Tobago in the process.

This year, the Unity Cup is scheduled to hold between May 26 to May 30 and will involve Jamaica, Zimbabwe, India and Nigeria. India in particular is reported to be looking forward to the tournament as it will provide the country to get involved in global football, which it has recently begun showing an interest in.

Then, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is involved in negotiations for the Eagles to face Poland on June 3 at in Warsaw and World Cup-bound Portugal on June 10. Nigeria last faced Poland in 2018, when the Eagles beat them 1-0 thanks to a penalty from former Chelsea wingback Victor Moses and Portugal just before the last World Cup.
