ENGLISH Premier League side Fulham are considering putting in a bid for Super Eagles centreback Chibuike Nwaiwu with a view to securing his services from Turkish club Trabzonspor during the forthcoming summer transfer window.
Nwaiwu, 22, has made a great impact this season for Trabzonspor following his move from Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger in January. He has since earned two caps for the Nigerian national team, as his aerial dominance with three headed goals in the Süper Lig has made him a standout performer.
According to football publication Four Four Two, Fulham are closely monitoring both Nwaiwu and his Trabzonspor teammate Wagner Pina, with a view to a potential summer transfer. Nwaiwu's standout displays recently earned him recognition from the CIES Football Observatory, which ranked him as the best centre-back in Turkey aged 23 or under and the second-best U23 player in the league.
If Fulham sign Nwaiwu, it could mean him teaming up with compatriot Calvin Bassey in the heart of the side's defence. Nwaiwu has a contract with Trabzonspor until the end of the 2029/30 season, so Fulham will have to meet their asking price for his services.
Ironically, Nwaiwu received a late call-up to the Super Eagles in March after Bassey withdrew from the squad due to a back injury ahead of friendly matches against Iran and Jordan. Apparently, Bayer Leverkusen are also tracking his progress.
