ITALIAN Serie A giants Juventus have been linked with a move for Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye during the current summer transfer window as part of a move to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Known as the Old lady, Juventus is Italy's most successful clubside, winning 36 official league titles, 15 Coppa Italia trophies and nine Italian Super Cups. Internationally, it has won two Inter-continental Cups, two Uefa Champions League titles, one European Cup Winners' Cup, three Uefa Cups, two Uefa Super Cups and one Intertoto Cup.
Last season, however, Juventus finished a disappointing sixth in Serie A and are looking to remedy that next season by strengthening their squad. Okoye, 26, enjoyed a great campaign with Udinese last season, playing a pivotal role in leading the club to a 10th-place finish in the Italian top flight.
Over the season, Okoye kept 10 clean sheets in 30 Serie A appearances, often producing moments of sheer brilliance. Currently valued at €9m by Transfermarkt, Okoye has two years remaining on his contract, so is relatively cheap and with Udinese having a reputation of being a selling club, they would likely be open to negotiations should a suitable offer arrive from Turin.
In anticipation of a potential exit, Udinese have already identified a replacement. According to Sleeper Football News, Udinese have identified Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia as the ideal candidate to replace Okoye should he leave.
Okoye’s stellar club form appears to have made him Nigeria's number one goalkeeper too. His fortunes in the national team, however, have been affected by the fact that the normal number one Stanley Nwabali, is currently clubless, having left Chippa United in South Africa in February and currently remains clubless.
