Super Eagles defender Fredrick signs new four year deal with Premier League side Brentford

SUPER Eagles centreback Benjamin Fredrick has signed a new four year deal with English Premier League side Brentford that will keep him at Gtech Community Stadium until the end of the 20229/30 season.

Fredrick, a tall, tough tackling defender, joined Brentford after outstanding performances in Nigeria's U20 World Cup team. In August 2023, he signed for Brentford on loan from Nigeria's Nasarawa United and was included in the club's first-team match day squad for the first time in January 2024, named as a substitute for an FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In April 2024, it was reported that Brentford were turning the loan deal into a permanent transfer with Fredrick agreeing to a four-year contract. Just after his first year at Brentford, Fredrick was named the Player of the Year at the club's academy and subsequently loaned him out to Belgian Pro League side Dender.

He quickly became a regular for the club but unfortunately suffered an injury that ruled him out for most of last season. Fredrick has since signed a two-year deal and now, Brentford has renewed the defender's contract. signing a new four year deal with him, keeping him until the summer of 2030.

Benjamin is very versatile, capable of playing as a centreback, rightback and defensive midfielder. Brentford head coach Keith Andrews, expressed satisfaction with Fredrick's progress since joining the club and confirmed that he would get integrated into the squad next season.

He added: “We’re delighted that Benji has signed a new deal and is going to be part of the group this season because we see a lot of potential in him and where we can bring his game to. He’s already played senior international football and was a big part of Nigeria’s team in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

“Last season, he had a really productive loan in Belgium that was unfortunately cut short due to injury. Now, the first port of call for Benji is to integrate into the squad consistently as his last game was the middle of November, so that’s a long time he’s had out through injury.

“He’s then got to come into the first-team space, challenge his team-mates and show the ability and the personality which I know he has.”

Given the fact that Brentford will play in Europe next season, Fredrick will definitely get game time. He is a product of the Simoiben Academy which is owned by Super Eagles forward Moses Simon and will be looking to continue growing and become a key player.
