Rangers consider signing Nigeria-eligible leftback Jayden Meghoma from Brentford

SCOTTISH giants Glasgow Rangers are looking to sign Nigeria-eligible leftback Jayden Meghoma from English Premier League side Brentford before the closure of the summer transfer window.

Meghoma, 20, spent last season on loan with Rangers where he featured in 44 matches scoring seven goals for the club. Following the end of his loan spell he has returned to London but according to Sky Sports UK, Rangers are assessing various targets as they look to strengthen the left-back position, with the Brentford defender among the options under consideration.

Tuur Rommens is currently the only recognised left-back available to Rangers manager Derek McInnes, so the club is looking so strengthen the position . Born in England to Nigerian parents, Meghoma has not ruled out representing the Super Eagles in the future.

Speaking to Brentford's official website, he said Nigeria's progress on the international stage had made him consider representing the three-time African champions. However, he remains committed to his country of birth for now and has represented England's Young Lions at U15, U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels.

Meghoma could earn his first England U21 cap in the forthcoming season. Before joining Brentford on deadline day of the 2024 summer transfer window, Meghoma played for the academy teams of Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.

He has made four first-team appearances for the Bees, including his Premier League debut against Chelsea in December 2024. It is not yet certain if Brentford are open to selling the youngster or if they want to keep him as part of their long term plans.
