Bolton and Charlton monitor Okonkwo after indications that he wants to leave Wrexham

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is being monitored by English Championship sides Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers after he indicated that he may be leaving Wrexham after the club signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland for £8m.

Last season, Wrexham finished the season in seventh place, just missing out on the play-off with Okonkwo as their goalkeeper, playing 39 league games. However, following the signing of Patterson for such a large fee, his position is now under threat as it appears that the club has decided they need a change in goal.

With just two weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes, Okonkwo is now looking for a new club and Championship rivals Charlton and Bolton have taken note. With Okonkwo now in the final year of his contract, Wrexham will be happy to sell him, so he does not leave on a free at the end of the season.

Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan during the 2023/24 campaign before signing a permanent deal the following season, after spending 15 years at Arsenal, having joined the London club at the age of eight. He was a key member of the Wrexham sides that earned back-to-back promotions, taking the club from League Two to the English Championship.

During his time at Wrexham, Okonkwo has kept 47 clean sheets in 121 appearances for the Red Dragons while conceding 127 goals. On the international stage, Okonkwo played for Nigeria during the 2026 Unity Cup, keeping clean sheets in victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
