Elijah Adebayo signs two year deal with Bristol City after joining them from Luton Town

NIGERIA-eligible striker Elijah Adebayo has joined English Championship side Bristol City on a two year deal following the expiration of his existing contract with former Premier League side Luton Town.

Born in the UK to Nigerian parents, Adebayo, 28, is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria and at one stage did say he was open to playing for the Super Eagles. During the 2023/24 season, Adebayo played for Luton Town in the English Premier League, where he caught the eye with his goals and scintillating play.

Since them, however, Luton have suffered a dwindling of their fortunes and are now playing in league one, the third tier of English football. Adebayo has now been offered a deal by the Robins after catching the eye of the coaching staff while training with the club during preparations for the new season.

Two years ago, Adebayo said: "My grandma lives in Nigeria, so the heritage is there. I am proud to be Nigerian and I would love to play for Nigeria. So, it's a case of my mum would be very proud if I play for Nigeria as well."

A product of the Fulham academy, Adebayo enjoyed loan spells with Slough Town, Bognor Regis Town, Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town and Stevenage during his time with the Cottagers before making a permanent move to Walsall in 2019. He then etched his name into Luton Town folklore during the 2023/24 season when he became the club's first player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League.

For the remainder of the 2026/27 season, Adebayo, Bristol City's tenth signing of the summer transfer window will wear the number 45 shirt. Adebayo uses to wear jersey number 11 at Luton Town, from as far back as 2021/22 campaign, which was his first full season with the club after transferring from Walsall.
