Deportivo elevate Uzoho to first team in the hope that they can keep him with offer of number one shirt

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has been elevated to the first team of Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna with a chance to claim the club's regular number one shirt following his recent heroics at the World Cup in Russia.

Uzoho, 19,created history during Russia 2018, becoming the second only teenage goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet at a World Cup match when Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0. He was subsequently voted the best young goalkeeper of the tournament and has been the subject of a lot of speculation ever since.

Newly-promoted La Liga side Huesca for instance are still negotiating with Deportivo La Coruna to secure the services of Uzoho as their current first choice goalkeeper Alejandro Remiro, is set to return to his parent club Athletico Bilbao following the expiration of his loan deal. However, it now appears that Deportivo, who were relegated from La Liga last season, might want to hold on to Uzoho as they seek promotion.

Already, Uzoho is back in training with the club who have assured him that he will remain with the first team and will no doubt challenge for the number one spot as opposed to last season, when he was mainly used by the B team who are campaigning in the third division in Spain. Although Uzoho made two first team appearances in the La Liga, he was more of a regular player with the B team.
