EKITI State governor Ayo Fayose's family have claimed that he is effectively under house arrest as over 1,000 security operatives have penned him into State House Ado Ekiti and are preventing him having contact with the outside world.
On Saturday, Ekiti State went to the polls to elect a new governor and yesterday morning, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec), declared Dr Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner. Inec's official results showed that Dr Fayemi got 197,459 votes against the 178,121 votes secured by deputy governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, who was backed by Governor Fayose.
Since elected into office in 2014, Governor Fayose has been a thorn in the side of the APC federal government, acting as the unofficial spokesman of the PDP. In the run-up to the polls, he was involved in a bitter war of words with the government and appearing with a neck brace, even claimed that policemen physically assaulted him.
This morning, Isaac Fayose, the governor's brother urged the people of the state not watch and allow the governor to die. He made the appeal while alleging that over 1,000 security operatives have blocked the state’s Government House while holding Governor Fayose hostage.
He also alleged that all mobile lines of the governor have been blocked by the federal government. In a Facebook post, Isaac claimed that the security operatives were out to kill Governor Fayose.
Isaac wrote: “As we speak, all the mobile lines of His Excellency, Ayodele Peter Fayose have been blocked and 1,000 security officials blocking the Government House in Ekiti State. Nobody can leave the Government House as we speak as we are all being held hostages. We fear our lives, and the life of the governor because they want to kill him
“All the television stations and radio stations in Ekiti State have been shut down. Please help us to share this message to people that can help us, as we are all in danger. Please don’t let Governor Fayose die.”
