EMIR of Daura Alhaji Umar Faruk has described acting president Professor Yemi Osinbajo as a typical example of trustworthiness in politics praising his unflinching loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking in Daura yesterday when Professor Osinbajo paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, while on a campaign stop for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the emir expressed appreciation for the support the acting president had given President Buhari, a son of the emirate. Today, there will be a by-election n the Katsina North senatorial District and Professor Osinbajo was in the state to support the APC candidate.
In a tight race that features two siblings standing against each other, Ahmad Baba-Kaita is the APC candidate, while his brother Kabir Babba-Kaita is standing on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Over the last week, political heavyweights have descended on Katsina as the two main parties were involved in a last minute push for votes.
President Buhari, however, has been unable to be present as he is currently in London on a medical vacation. He has handed over authority to Professor Osinbajo who Emir Faruk said has been exemplary in the way he has carried out the tasks given to him in a loyal and dedicated fashion.
Emir Faruk said: “I can assure you that all us here, myself and my subjects are fully and solidly behind you and in support of you. We are happy with you and we are particularly proud of the way you have supported our son, Buhari, in leading our country Nigeria to prosperity.
“That shows that when you talk about loyalty and trustworthiness among the political class, you stand as an example worthy of note. I wish that you carry on with this level of trustworthiness and continue to uphold the confidence that our son has in you and I can assure you that our son has enormous trust in you and I want you to continue to justify that confidence he reposed in you."
Also, the emir noted that the nation had never had such a government where the president and his vice operated with such a high level of mutual respect and understanding. He said that from the onset, the government had demonstrated integrity, adding that President Buhari and Professor Osinbajo were men of honour.
Jibrin Zarewa, the Katsina State resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said that over 800,000 voters are expected to vote in today's bye-election. The seat became vacant following the death of Senator Mustapha Bukar, who passed away in April after a brief illness.
