SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has completed a season-long loan transfer to Spanish second division clubside Elche after the team and his parent club Deportivo La Coruna reached an agreement yesterday.
Uzoho, 19, who was Nigeria’s first choice at the recent World Cup in Russia has been looking to move to a club where he will play regular football after his sudden rise to international stardom. With Deportivo not guaranteeing him first team football, Elche have stepped in to sign him and the deal will be completed on Monday after the player undergoes a medical.
An official statement from Elche posted on its website read: “The club and the RC Deportivo de la Coruña have agreed the transfer of goalkeeper Francis Uzoho on a one-year loan deal which comes after he played for Nigeria at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.”
After Monday's medical, Uzoho is expected to resume training with his teammates immediately afterwards. Uzoho made two appearances for Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish La Liga last season but after that was sent to the B team, where he featured 28 times.
Yesterday, Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr reaffirmed his faith in Uzoho, naming him in a 24-man squad that will prosecute the September 7 African nations Cup qualifier against Seychelles. Given his tender age, Uzoho is expected to man goal for the Super eagles for a long time to come.
