Victor Moses may get new boss at Stamford bridge as Abramovich puts Chelsea up for sale

SUPER Eagles wingback Victor Moses may soon have a new boss at Stamford Bridge after Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich announced that he has decided to put Chelsea Football Club up for sale.

Already, Mr Abramovich has hired New York bank Raine Group to lay the groundwork for the sale of the club. Raine is said to have valued the Premier League club at £2bn, although it is still unclear whether the Russian wants new owners or to sell his stake in the club which he bought for £140m in 2003.

Highly respected for its knowledge of the football business, Raine helped Manchester City sell a 13% stake in the club to China Media Capital for £265m in 2015. With Mr Abramovich now facing difficulties renewing his UK visa following heightened diplomatic tension between Russia and Britain, it appears that he has decided to cash in on his investment.

In May, following the political sanctions Great Britain imposed on Russia in response to the Salisbury poisoning, Chelsea announced that Abramovich was putting off a proposed £500m expansion of Stamford Bridge. Now, he is following this up with a sale of the club and may decide to quit the UK altogether.

Chelsea have failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second time in three years, having previously qualified for the competition every year since Mr Abramovich took over. Although the club remains very wealthy, Mr Abramovich might decide that he has invested enough in it, getting very little back in return.

Apart from Victor Moses, other Nigerian players on Chelsea's books include fullback Ola Aina and centreback Kenneth Omeruo, who are currently out on loan to clubs in Italy and Spain respectively. Super Eagles skipper Mikel Obi, is also a Chelsea legend, having spent over 10 years at Stamford Bridge.
