MOVEMENT for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob) founder Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has used the occasion of the impending anniversary celebrations of the Biafran republic to assure his members that they will achieve their goal without violence.
Between July 1967 and January 1970, Biafra existed as an independent nation state but if ceased to operate following the end of the Nigerian civil war. Over the last 20 years or so though, groups like Massob have been campaigning to revive the Biafran dream, which has enjoyed a rebirth, especially since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015.
On September 13, Biafran supporters will celebrate the anniversary and according to Chief Uwazuruike, the occasion will be marked in all the states of the southeast and south-south geo-political zones. He added that Massob has been going for 19 years now and has maintained peace and non violence in its quest for Biafra in the face of a crackdown by Nigeria’s security operatives.
Chief Uwazuruike said: “Kudos to Massob to have kept the struggle without violence for 19 years now. Igbo nations should expect Biafra without gunshot and I want to assure all of them that the much-coveted Biafra Republic is at our doorstep.
“It is a shame to Nigeria’s military that the non-violent Massob freedom fighters are always attacked. They abandon the protection of the territorial integrity of the country, the primary mandate for which they were established to do this."
