ONDO youths have rejected a police report clearing people close to Chief Ope Bademosi of complicity in his gruesome murder last month demanding that a fresh investigation be conducted to ascertain the real facts behind his death.
On October 31, Chief Bademosi, the Loti of Ondo and chairman of Credit Switch Technology, was brutally stabbed to death and the police have subsequently arrested six suspects. The main suspect, his Togolese cook Sunday Afobale, who was paraded in Akure by the Ondo State Police Command, alleged that no fewer than six men invaded his boss's apartment on Onikoyi Lane in the Parkview Estate, lkoyi area of Lagos and killed him.
Although, Mr Afobale, a former Togolese soldier has issued a confession to the police, nothing in his statement has directly pinned him to the murder as the major suspect. According to family sources, there is an urgent need for security agencies and the police to stop chasing shadows or keep wasting time on the young man.
They believe that the police should beam their searchlight on the wife of the deceased and other family members. Fingers of suspicion have already been pointed in the direction of his wife Ebun but the police have not charged her with any offence and Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC), the umbrella body for all youths in Ondo kingdom, want the security forces to broaden their investigations.
Eric Famogun, the OEYC president, said: "The death of our dear chairman came to us as a rude shock but we believe God will definitely track all the evil perpetrators down but we are worried. We are worried about the abrupt conclusion from the first report that he was killed by a Togolese cook called Sunday who also resumed on the Sunday preceding the incident and we are worried about the dangerous silence from the Nigeria Police Force on the reasons why our late chief's security and cook were sacked a few days before his murder.
"We are worried about the dangerous silence from the Nigeria Police Force on the reasons why the newly employed security guard was still deeply asleep around a few minutes after 8.10am in the morning after opening the gate for the late chief's wife few minutes before that time. We know that our dear chief is a gallant man, so it would be very difficult for the alleged murderer to tie his hands backward and stab him to death as reported by the police.
"We are worried about this report and are eager to know others who assisted the alleged murderer in this cruel operation. We believe some lines are missing in your report and we demand for a detailed one, remember that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
"If you make the world to believe absurdities you are definitely making us to commit atrocities. We hereby reject the police report and demand a proper detailed investigation from the Nigeria Police Force."
