SUPER Eagles right back Tyrone Ebuehi looks set to return from injury earlier than expected and make the national team squad for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles on March 22 after it emerged he is recovering from injury earlier than expected.
Ebuehi, 22, had expected to be out for the entire season after suffering sustained damage to his left anterior cruciate ligament in July. Dutch-born Ebuehi suffered the injury during a pre-season match with his new team Benfica against Juventus just after his summer move from Ado Den Haag after the World Cup.
It was initially feared that he would miss the Africa Cup of Nations next year but reports from Portugal indicate that he is progressing nicely and well on course to return to competitive football soon. If he features for his clubside soon as he is expected to return to action around January 29, Eagles head coach will likely recall Ebuehi for the Seychelles match.
Meanwhile, Mr Rohr has ruled out recalling Hibernian defender Efe Ambrose despite his recent fine form, saying that he is too old for the national team. Last month Rohr confirmed he is keeping a close watch on Ambrose and listed him as possible alternative if any of his defenders fails to make the cut in the nearest future.
However, yesterday, Mr Rohr shut down any hope of a potential return to the team for the 30 year old who helped Nigeria lift the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He said he is focused on getting players who are at the right age to last the country for some years and not players like Ambrose.
