TOGOLESE cook Sunday Adefonou Anani accused of murdering the chairman of Credit Switch Technology Chief Ope Bademosi earlier this month has been reported dead while in police custody.
Mr Anani, 22, was the prime suspect in the murder of Chief Bademosi, the Loti of Ondo and chairman of Credit Switch Technology, who was brutally stabbed to death on October 30. Following the murder, the police arrested six suspects who were believed to have invaded his Chief Bademosi's apartment on Onikoyi Lane in the Parkview Estate, lkoyi area of Lagos and killed him.
Although, Mr Anani, a former Togolese soldier had issued a confession to the police, apparently, there is nothing in his statement that directly pins him to the murder as the major suspect. According to family sources, there is an urgent need for security agencies and the police to stop chasing shadows or keep wasting time on the young man.
This morning, his counsel issued a statement saying that Mr Anani is late. He had been remanded in prison custody by an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos, on November 12 while the case had been adjourned until December 18, pending the issuance of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Chief Magistrate Mrs Oshin, had made the order during the hearing of an application for remand, from the police made to the court. Police prosecutor J.I Eboseremene had told the court that he had an application to remand the suspect in prison custody under section 115, of the administration of criminal justice law and 264, of administration of criminal justice law 2015.
Ondo youths have already rejected a police report clearing people close to Chief Bademosi of complicity in his gruesome murder, demanding that a fresh investigation be conducted to ascertain the real facts behind his death. Fingers of suspicion have already been pointed in the direction of his wife Ebun but the police have not charged her with any offence and the Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC), the umbrella body for all youths in Ondo kingdom, want the security forces to broaden their investigations.
