Abeokuta butcher beats his wife to death for disrespecting him after she accused him of looking at a neighbour's backside

OGUN State butcher Sina Kasali has been arrested by police and is set to be charged with murder after he killed his wife Sherifat by beating her to death for being rude to him by accusing him of looking at another woman in their compound.

Mr Kasali, 38, a butcher from Abosule in Agbado, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, beat the 26-year-old nursing mother to death on Saturday after a disagreement. Sherifat had accused her husband of looking at the backside of a neighbour, who is said to be a commercial sex worker.

Subsequently, Sina scolded his wife for being rude and then proceeded to beat her up until she collapsed. After the beating, a neighbour invited a nurse to attend to Sherifat because Kasali refused to take her to a hospital but he even prevented the nurse from treating his wife until she gave up the ghost.

One eyewitness said Sina wanted to run away after his wife died but was held down while the police were alerted. Apparently, the couple had lived together for about 10 years but their relationship was fraught with violence, with Sherifat, a mother of three, continuously on the receiving end of beatings.

“They had been living together for 10 years and had three children. Their last born is about three months old but Sina always beat the woman and people had warned him several times to no avail.

“His wife had accused him of peeping into the private parts of a sex worker in their compound that morning. He got angry and dragged her inside and then beat her to a stupor and refused to take her to the hospital. We called a nurse to attend to her but he did not allow the nurse to treat her,” the eyewitness added.

After Sherifat died, Sina was arrested by a team of policemen from the Agbado Police Station led by the divisional police officer Sunday Omonijo. A native of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, he said he only slapped his wife and did not allow the nurse to attend to Sherifat because he and the nurse were not on good terms.

Sina said: “My wife and I had been living together peacefully until some bad women in our compound started influencing her. Those women drink and she was always with them whenever I went to work, which is how she became a drinker too and she started being rude to me.

“Two days before the incident happened, she accused me of gazing at a neighbour’s backside and I warned her not to accuse me of such a thing again. She began to abuse me and I slapped her."
